Travis Tausend Yumi Pinot Noir 2020
Travis Tausend we first met when he was manning the helm of Høst Wine Imports, where he brought some of the most esoteric and intriguing wines into the country, capturing the imagination of drinkers nationwide.
His own wines that he makes from the Adelaide Hills are an extension of his own personailty, engaging, in touch with the earth and full of bright intensity.
I asked Travis to match an album with each of these new releases to which he kindly obliged, with a succinct explanation, followed by his notes on the wines.
Yumi : solange “a seat at the table” why: smooth, slick, can listen to it cold or hot and the sounds are still sultry.
The wine is made from the same part of the vineyard each year because it’s the part of the vineyard that ripens first. A plend of 2 clones of pinot (MV6 & D5V12) the grapes are hand picked and treated as part whole bunch and part destemmed fruit, fermented on skins for a week before being pressed to 2 x 500L barrels for the rest of fermentation and elevage. This is a light and fun pinot with heaps of red berry juicy characters. Spring time wine. Alc: 11.6% Volume: 750ml
Grape: Pinot Noir
Region: Adelaide Hills
