Matassa Blanc 2020
Matassa is another Languedoc/Roussillon project by kiwi-born Tom Lubbe, who actually spent his formative winemaking years in South Africa. He paved the way for people like Craig Hawkins of Testalonga to create a scene in South Africa, but it wasn’t until he moved to France that he really forged his own path. The wines are all very mineral-driven, and as the vineyards have evolved and become healthier due to his diligent care, he has used less and less sulfur every year, these days about 10ppm. The reds are lively and energetic, and the whites/oranges are textural and exotic.
