Gareth and Rainbo Belton hung up the scuba gear in 2015, leaving behind a prolific career in marine biology, studying all kinds of seaweed and algae, to pursue a life in wine, in the heart of the Basket Range, Adelaide Hills. Every vintage their story gets told in a more refined and elegant style, the wines shine through as insightful and refreshing postcards from the beautiful sites they lovingly tend to. They now look after three vineyards, all of which are farmed organically, with no additions to the wines bar a touch of sulphur at bottling.
Rainbow Juice is predominately Pinot Gris but includes a decent whack of Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Gordo Blanco. With the addition of smaller amounts of Gewurztraminer, Syrah, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Riesling and Grenache, this combination displays darker fruits than in previous vintages but is nothing short of spectacular. There are crunchy phenolics and bone dry acidity that will have you seeking out the nearest charcuterie board. The wine was filtered to increase brightness in the colour but with no fining so as not to lose its essence and underwent full malo.
