Alex Foillard Brouilly 2020
Being the son of Jean Foillard puts a lot of pressure on your output, but young Alex has come a long way, making some truly great wines out of their corner of Beaujolais.
Words from Andrew Guard, importer:
Alex Foillard’s Brouilly comes from the aptly named 'La Folie' (Madness), a steep vineyard just above Reverdon. The general rule is that Brouilly is the Côte de Brouilly’s slightly softer, more sensuous sibling and Foillard’s is a glorious example.
The 2020 wines from Alex were a revelation - we tasted them outside on their porch this May. Alex basically handles the vinification for his and his father Jean's wines, though Jean and his brother Louis are always around, as is his mother, Agnes; this is a definitely a family affair. I feel that, five years on from his first vintage his wines are qualitatively on par with Jean's and can be purchased with the same confidence. The 2020 vintage at the Foillard's as you already know from Jean's wines is nothing short of exceptional!
