‘Heaven Sent’ - A blushing red from Trophy Eyes, Golden Child Wines and Built to Spill Wine.
So damn smart and interesting, don’t say that you weren’t warned!
We are very pleased to introduce, ‘Heaven Sent’ our latest collaboration with long-time friends Trophy Eyes and new pals Golden Child. Newcastle’s emotional pop punk heroes Trophy Eyes have been friends for many years, sharing many bevvy’s at shows and festivals around the country. We love the story telling relatability that Trophy Eyes deliver with the perfect mix of emo/pop/punk/hardcore vibes. When the story turned to wine, we knew the right pairing for this collaboration.
We took to the Adelaide hills to meet up with James from Golden Child, the ideal maker for this collaboration being a massive fan of punk rock and hardcore music. Following our favourite way of winemaking, no yucky stuff, James has been making delicious smashable wines in the Adelaide Hills since 2016 after dad David planted vines back in ‘97. Always sporting his amazing taste in music through social media - possibly confusing most wine folk, not us. This was one of the most organic collaborations of people, friends, music and wine we have seen.
“I’ve had a deep seeded love of punk/hardcore since my friend Josh gave me a mix tape of Pennywise ‘Unknown Road’ and Propagandhi ‘How to Clean Everything’ when I was fourteen. I used to thrash it in my Walkman when I walked the family dog. I loved it so much that I would keep doing laps of the block and I would be gone so long that my mum would come looking for me. I’m super excited to release this collab with one of my favourite Australian bands, Trophy Eyes and the guys from Built to Spill. We selected some barrels and came up with a frisky blend that’s super aromatic, fresh and delicious. Don’t think, just drink and enjoy!” James, Golden Child Wines
A chemical miracle – ‘Heaven Sent’ is a 70% Pinot (Kuitpo), 20% Syrah (Blewitts), 10% Grenache (Blewitts). Giving a strong presence of bright red fruits on the front and finishing with a light to medium body. The acidity is spot on, put those Quickeze away dads! Both pinot, syrah and grenache had several components treated to differing amounts of carbonic maceration (makes it taste like bubblegum!) and a little bit of wholebunch (all the grapes with stalks etc. gives it structure!). All picked early for that primo natural acidity and bottled unfined and unfiltered. No adds bar sulfur, vegan as!
“We’re excited to announce Trophy Eyes’ first wine with the help of our dear friends at Golden Child and Built To Spill. With notes of cherry and strawberry, this blushing red can be enjoyed room temperature or slightly chilled. Pairs best with a close friend, your favourite record, and a slight summer breeze, when the air is sweet in the late afternoon. Enjoy, you deserve it.” John, Trophy Eyes
